Slime Classes for Kids at Family Learning Lab in Citrus Heights
If you’re looking for a slime class for kids, Family Learning Lab in Citrus Heights offers welcoming and exciting Slime Labs! Our slime making classes are highly engaging and full of sticky, slimy fun!
Kids ages 5 to 12+ love our kids slime labs – younger slimers are welcome with a parent helper, too!
Kids love our slime labs because they get to mix up the recipes themselves while watching the magic of cross linking happen right before their eyes. We give kids plenty of time to squish and play with their slimes – competing for the record for Tallest Slime Bubble and Longest Slime Pull.
Parents love our slime class for kids because we sneak in science facts and concepts while kids make up their slime and give them a fun experience to bond over – making slime side by side with their kids.
All kids get to mix their own slimes following our relaxed step by step instructions which include fun add-ins like glitter, resin sprinkles, and themed charms. When they’re done playing, kids get to package their slime in plastic containers and decorate them with themed stickers. (Pro tip, these make excellent gifts!)
You can view upcoming slime labs and reserve a spot here.
What Happens in Our Slime Class for Kids
When you arrive at our Slime Making Class at our Citrus Heights center, you’ll first check in at the front desk. Then, find a seat at one of our tables. We set out trays fully prepped with all the materials your child will need to prepare their slime. You are welcome to sit with your kids as they make their slime, or relax on a nearby couch if you’re child prefers to slime independently.
When our guests have all checked in, we’ll begin the slime class. Our fun Slime Instructor will lead kids through the steps of creating their slime – offering guidance and help as needed.
As your kids mix and prep, we’ll talk about the science behind what’s happening and something unique to the particular slime class. Feeling stuck? We make sure everyone gets a slime they love before they leave!
Type of Slimes Kids Can Make
Every slime class for kids here at Family Learning Lab is different and follows a fun theme. Instant snow mixed in with light blue mica powder, rainbow sprinkles and cute cloud charms = Rainbow Cloud Slime! Bubble slime, fluffy slime, even GLOW slime! We do it all in our slime labs for kids here at Family Learning Lab. No two slimes are the same which keeps the fun. Your child can collect them all!
One of our favorite kids slime classes here is glow in the dark slime. We add intense glow powder to the glue, glow in the dark glitter, then activate it and add glow charms for a maximum glow slime experience. Oh, and did we mention we have a UV Black Light GLOW ROOM?!? After kids have finished making up their glow slime, we invite them to play with their slime in our glow room. It’s the coolest sight ever to walk in and see all the glowing slime pulls and giant slime bubbles! And of course, we end the session by adding glow in the dark stickers to our slime containers!
From Bingsu crunchy slime, to silky putty-like butter slime, there’s always a fun slime to explore at Family Learning Lab’s slime classes for kids! And of course, kids can make scented slime, too.
The Science Behind Slime
Making slime is a fantastic STEM activity for kids. They’re not just making a toy to play with, they’re creating the chemical reaction that causes the polymers in glue to cross link – creating longer molecular chains which makes stretchy slime that’s not sticky. Kids are not only creating this change, they are feeling it, seeing it, and manipulating it.
The science we teach go beyond just that behind slime. We discuss how clouds are formed when we make cloud slime. We explain why glow powder actually glows – and why UV light makes the glow effect amplified. What makes a bubble hold its shape or pop easily? There’s science all around us, and making themed slimes give us the perfect opportunity to get kids excited about learning.
Why Kids Love Slime Labs
Kids love slime because it’s creative, sensory, and a little bit messy in the best possible way. Mixing colors, stretching slime, and adding fun textures like glitter or foam beads turns the activity into a mini science experiment and an art project at the same time. Many kids also enjoy comparing their slime creations with friends and testing how stretchy, fluffy, or glossy their slime turns out.
Why Parents Love Our Slime Classes
Parents appreciate that slime labs combine creativity with learning in a structured environment. Instead of experimenting with slime ingredients all over the kitchen table, kids get to explore slime making in a guided class where all the materials are provided and the cleanup is handled. It’s a fun way for kids to experience hands-on science while parents relax, observe, or enjoy a cup of coffee in the center.
Who the Slime Class Is For
Our slime classes are designed primarily for kids ages 5–12, but the experience is enjoyable for a wide range of ages. Homeschool families often join slime labs as a fun science enrichment activity, while other families attend as an after-school creative outlet. Because each lab features a different slime theme, kids can return multiple times and always try something new.

Is Slime Safe for Kids?
Yes—when made and used properly, slime is generally safe for kids. In our slime classes, children use common craft ingredients such as school glue, mica powder, tempera paint, and a diluted slime activator to create their slimes. These materials are widely used in classroom and craft activities. As with many hands-on projects, adult supervision is important. Children should avoid putting slime in their mouths or eyes and should wash their hands after playing with it. Slime is designed for play, not for eating, and younger children who tend to put objects in their mouths should be closely supervised. Following these simple safety habits helps keep slime play fun, creative, and safe for everyone.
Frequently Asked Questions About Slime Classes
What age is the slime class for?
We recommend ages 5 to 12 for our slime labs as we see those ages enjoy making slime the most. Younger kids are welcome with a helper, but should be able to sit at a table and engage in an activity with you for around 15 to 20 minutes. Older kids are always welcome.
Can grownups make slime, too?
Of course! Please purchase a ticket for each member of your party who would like to make slime as supplies are ticket specific. *Please note that adults may not enter our center without a child, so please attend Slime Labs as a family.
Do kids take their slime home?
Yes! We give kids an attractive plastic container with black lid that really shows off their slime creations. We also give them themed stickers to decorate their containers. Some kids collect all their slimes, and some kids gift their slimes to friends and presents – they’re that “cool looking!”
How long is the slime class?
Our center is open for an hour for our families to enjoy their slime experiences together. Most kids finish making their slime in under 30 minutes and are invited to play with their slime for the rest of the hour as they like.
Do parents stay during the class?
Yes – we are a drop in center (never drop off) and for good reason! We want to create opportunities for families to enjoy more time together – through science, art, play, and more! You can sit with your child during our slime labs, or if they prefer to slime alone help yourself to free coffee and wi-fi on our couches here in our “community living room.”
