Family Learning Lab
6916 Sunrise Blvd
Citrus Heights, CA

This week's theme is Plants!

There’s a lot of learning sprouting up this week at the center! We’ve got a plant themed sensory play setup, and fun plant themed learning going on at Kinder Hour. Older kids have a chance to try out our MESSA Lab homeroom (see below) for the first time, and we’ve rearranged Fridays to have more STEAM powered fun! In the art lab you can try out making all sorts of paper flowers, and come learn about the parts of a plant and make your own model of a plant cell at our Science Exploration Station. There’s so much going on this week – come learn with us!

👩‍🏫MESSA Labs Soft Launch!

Top News This Week…

This week we’ll be soft launching our MESSA Labs – a homeroom style class for elementary aged kids.

For now this class will keep a core of Math Mania and Wacky Writers, but will include more elements of our MESSA Labs design – our core elementary age class offering we’re launching next year.

The goal for MESSA Labs is to….

  • Offer a homeroom base for kids to make lasting friendships throughout the year
  • Give homeschooled kids the opportunity to follow instruction from another adult
  • Intentionally provide opportunities each class for group work and collaboration
  • Include math games, fun writing prompts, and geography
  • Pair well with the science and art stations at FamLab so kids can do a little in each subject in one day: Math, English, Social Studies, Science, & Art (MESSA)

–

We are starting MESSA Labs now, mostly because we can’t wait, but also because we really want to make sure we’re hitting the mark with this class before we go full steam ahead on next year’s marketing. We want to provide community and collaboration for elementary aged kids while keeping our classes focused on serving parent educators. MESSA Labs is the perfect way to do this at FamLab!

**Note: because our current class size is small, we’re grouping grades 1-5 for the last remaining weeks of school.  Next year we’ll be offering 2 different MESSA Labs – one for grades 1 thru 3 and the other for grades 3 thru 5 (you can pick the right group for your kids.)

📢A little housekeeping…

Our Kinder Hour is growing! We need to work on some logistics to keep it a comfy experience. I really want to keep the program drop in, so let’s try a few things before we have to switch it to reserving space.

Please keep the noise down as best as you can during the class. We want the kiddos to get everything out of Kinder Hour so please try to keep conversations quiet.

Please keep non participating kids off the green carpet.

I’ll be trying some new furniture arranging to see if I can make it more comfortable – I’m always open to suggestions!

Also, please remember that our center is designed for ages 4 and up. If you have younger kids in the center with you please keep them right next to you at all times, under very close supervision.

If you ever notice that the restrooms need attention, or anywhere else for that matter, please let Ms. Christy know. It’s always helpful to have extra eyes when things get busy.

Thank you everyone for making FamLab such a wonderful place for families!

🚘New Teen Vehicle Maintenance Class is Forming:

We have a teens only vehicle maintenance class in development. These classes will be for ages 13 to 18 and will start in May and continue through the summer. These will be single workshop style classes with an instructor that will pair classroom instruction with hands on (safety first!) tasks. Students may take just one class or multiple classes in the series. If you’re interested and want a say in the scheduling, give us a text or email with your day and time preferences. Stay tuned!

Last Chance For Feedback On Next Year’s Schedule

We have spent the year trying all the things, working out how best to serve our families, and really trying to listen to what our community needs. We’re not about competing with what’s already out there – we want to fill the needs that aren’t being met.

We’ve taken all that we’ve learned and put together a tentative schedule for next year. Now’s the time to let us know what you think before it’s set in stone!

Take a look and hit reply to a text or email if you have any comments, concerns, or suggestions!

*Kids D&D will likely move to Fridays from 12pm to 2pm, kids are welcome to bring a lunch.
