This is a FREE event. We welcome a $2 donation if you’re able to contribute towards supplies, but not mandatory. Click here to send a donation.
Kids will have fun using droppers to add vinegar to a disposable plate of baking soda. The baking soda has secret color crystals inside so kids will have fun exploding the colors with their vinegar drops!
Kids are invited to gather around as Ms. Christy reads Soda Pop Head by Julia Cook. We’ll talk about what makes us pop our caps and how to calm down when we get angry.
One small note – I will be omitting a few small parts of the story, mostly for time’s sake. This book offers a variety of ideas to kids for calming themselves down, one of which is to punch a pillow. I always felt unsure about this part so I’ll omit it; you’re welcome to go over this on your own with your children and take a look together at the book while at the event 🙂
Kids will receive a prepped sensory bottle prefilled with colored water (they will get to pick their color.) They will then visit the add-ins table and choose a variety of glitter and small add-ins to put into a little cup. They’ll bring their sensory bottles and add-ins to a table and carefully add the items to their bottles. We will also have glue station where helpers will glue their caps onto the bottles.
Kids can shake their bottles to mimic when they get angry, then watch the bottles settle and practice calming themselves down
**IMPORTANT NOTE** Sensory play includes a variety of ingredients and materials that may present choking hazards for small children and simply won’t taste good. Please be mindful of any allergies your children may have. A supervising adult must be present with their children during the entire event. You will need to sign a waiver when you arrive.
Ingredients used in this month’s sensory play include: baking soda, vinegar, food coloring.
Ingredients used in this month’s project MAY include: glitter, vegetable oil, hair gel, baby oil, pom poms, buttons, beads, and other small pieces that present choking hazards. PLEASE SUPERVISE YOUR CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES.
