We will have cooked and dyed spaghetti noodles for kids to get elbow deep in for some fun tactile and sensory play. Kids can use playdough scissors to practice cutting the noodles. I’ll also have black trays available for kids to to take some spaghetti to a spot for individual play. Kids can also use these black trays to make fun wikistix-style pictures with the noodles. **PASTA IS NOT INTENDED FOR EATING**
Kids are invited to gather around as Ms. Christy reads Pasta Pasta, Lotsa Pasta by Aimee Lucido.
We will have two stations setup so that there is something age appropriate for everyone. Younger kids can make necklaces and bracelets using pipe cleaners and dried, dyed pasta.
Older kids will get to make mini mosaics with a wide variety of pasta and colors. Kids will first add a layer of air dry clay to very small paper plate. Then, they’ll hunt through a giant pile of assorted pasta to choose pieces to use in their mosaics by pressing them into the clay. After their mosaics dry for a few days, they can trim the edges of their paper plates to display their artwork.
**IMPORTANT NOTE** Sensory play includes a variety of ingredients and materials that may present choking hazards for small children, potential allergic reactions, and simply won’t taste good. Please be mindful of any allergies your children may have. A supervising adult must be present with their children during the entire event. You will need to sign a waiver when you arrive.
Ingredients used in this month’s sensory play include: pasta, non-toxic acrylic paint, hand sanitizer, commercial air dry clay. Possibly DIY air dry clay made from baking soda and cornstarch.
**If you or your children have a gluten allergy we recommend not attending this event as we are unable to prevent contact with gluten due to the nature of the event.
